Lady Peat sculpture

A sculpture resembling a pile of coins resulted from a project of Herrington Primary School children who used their artistic skills to highlight a part of their local history.  They enlisted the help of Herrington Heritage Group to uncover the local story of Lady Peat, the colourful miser of the village long ago.

Born in 1752, Lady Peat lived near the Board Inn roundabout and gained a reputation as a kleptomaniac.  The schoolchildren then linked this with a quotation from the Book of Proverbs about money and the name of the unfortunate servant girl Isabella Young was also added.  A local sculptor was asked to design a suitable sculpture and this was unveiled in Herrington Park in the presence of the children involved in the project.
